Hospira Corporate Giving

Assisting Seriously Ill Children

Hospira, Inc., a leading global hospital products company based in Lake Forest, IL, and its charitable arm, the Hospira Foundation, seek to "advance wellness" in the communities where they work. The company was spun off from Abbott Laboratories in 2004.

One of the several organizations that the Hospira Foundation supports is the Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation, based in Los Angeles. The group organizes programs to help improve the quality of life for seriously ill children and their family members, through in-hospital and outpatient programs designed to enhance their ability to cope with the stress of illness.

The Hospira Foundation, founded in 2005, has channeled significant support to several of Starlight Starbright's programs to empower, validate and educate youth who are coping with illness. During the past few years, the foundation's support enabled Starlight Starbright to expand pediatric patients' access to interactive, educational Web-based computer programs and provide "PC Pals" - secure, Internet-enabled laptop computers - to two Chicago-area hospitals.

Building Schools and Bridging Communities internationally

Hospira's outreach to those in need knows no boundaries, geographic or philanthropic. Near its manufacturing facility in the Dominican Republic, at San Miguel, an underserved community located in Haina town, the company worked with a local school's parent's association and other neighborhood residents to construct a new school for approximately 300 students, some of whom are children of Hospira workers.

Employees provide value to community causes and issues of interest, and the company offers several programs designed to recognize that value and facilitate employee involvement.
