How Companies Give
Medical technology companies have several methods of providing assistance to under-served communities around the world:
Cash contributions -issued either directly from the company itself, or delivered through a non-profit foundation under section 501(c)3 of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code.
Product donations - made through corporate funds or through a non-profit foundation established by the company.
Employer/Employee Match - the company matches cash contributions collected from its employees. Usually this is offered on a dollar-for-dollar basis, although other match formulas may be sometimes used.
Volunteerism - the company permits workers to volunteer their time and effort to community-based charitable or educational efforts. Although this concept has existed for years in the United States, more recently, medical technology companies have established programs in which their employees will volunteer their time, experience and particular skills to teach health care workers in under-served areas outside of the U.S.
