AdvaMed Statement on the Patent Reform Act of 2008 (S. 3600)
|
Washington, DC – Stephen J. Ubl, president and CEO of the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), released the following statement today regarding the introduction of the Patent Reform Act of 2008 (S.3600) by Sen. Jon Kyl: “America leads the world in the development of new and life-saving medical technology and diagnostics. The iterative nature and rapid development of these life-saving and life-enhancing products requires a strong patent system to preserve on-going innovation. Improving and modernizing the patent system is clearly important to all sectors of the U.S. economy and we applaud Sen. Kyl and his staff for their leadership and inclusive approach to developing this legislation. “It is critical that any patent legislation be balanced in its treatment of concerns raised by stakeholders and not favor one industry model to the detriment of others. The Kyl legislation offers a more balanced approach to patent reform than previous bills. “We look forward to working with Sen. Kyl, his staff and other Members of Congress on this issue in the days and months ahead.”
